KOO Chakalaka
Marinated Steak
  • Description:

This sirloin steak recipe is perfect for meat lovers – especially those who like a touch of mildly spicy food. After being marinated for a couple of hours, the meat can either be pan-fried to perfection or placed on the braai for a real South African feast. The chakalaka sauce proves to be the perfect topping for the juicy, smokey beef. Serve with sides of your choice. Serves: 4 - 6

  • Ingredients:

Freshly ground black pepper to taste
    1 can (410 g) KOO Mild & Spicy Chakalaka

    4 – 6 Sirloin steaks
    Pinch of salt for seasoning
Zest and juice of 1 lemon

50 ml Sunflower oil, for frying
    100 ml Olive oil

  • Method:

    1. In a medium-sized bowl, mix together the KOO Mild & Spicy Chakalaka, with the olive oil, lemon juice and zest. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
    2. Place the sirloin steaks in a flat-bottomed bowl and pour the remaining marinade over them.
    3. Cover with cling film and allow marinating for 2 – 3 hours in the fridge.
    4. Heat a non-stick griddle pan with 50 ml of oil and pan-fry the marinated steaks until caramelised and golden on either side. Cook to preference.
    5. Meanwhile, heat a medium-sized, heavy-based saucepan and allow the marinating liquid to boil for 15 – 20 minutes, or until the liquid has thickened. Serve the steaks with the KOO chakalaka sauce on a platter.
