Mustard Steak with
Onion Rings

  • Ingredients:

    Onion Rings
    Oil for deep-frying
    250 ml self-raising flour
    250 ml soda water
    Pinch of salt
    2 onions, sliced into rings

    4 x 150 g steaks
    Salt and freshly ground black pepper
    10 ml oil

    Mustard Crust
    45 ml wholegrain mustard
    5 ml Dijon mustard

  • Method:

    1. Preheat the oven to 230°C.
    2. Rub the steaks with salt, pepper and oil. Fry them in a very hot pan until the outside is sealed.
    3. Combine the mustard crust ingredients and brush each steak with the mixture.
    4. Grill for 5 minutes or until cooked to your preference.
    5. Heat enough oil for deep-frying.
    6. Whisk the flour, soda water and salt. Dip the onion rings in batter and fry until golden. Drain on paper towels.
    7. Serve the steaks with the onion rings and a side dish of micro-greens or a mixed salad.
